How we did it

It all started with a simple idea.

number-1

Design a few shirts and screen print them at a small studio one weekend.

number-2

Donate all proceeds to charity.

And then became really complex.

Selling $300,000 worth of shirts in 3 days with no inventory or idea of who is going to print them.
Thanks to ACS Apparel for jumping in and handling printing, distribution and order customer service. Total life savers.

People will question your cause.
No matter how solid your cause is, someone will always question it. Where is the money going? Are you taking a profit? You are not legit. People should donate directly to victims and on and on… Know where your money is going.

It’s hard to give away money.
Rules, questions, boards, decisions. Where to get jumbo checks? Luckily we have the Pikes Peak Community Foundation to guide us in our giving adventures. They have helped align us with some great causes and ultimately they write the checks with our guidance. Thank you PPCF for all that you do.

Twitter will block you and Paypal may not release your funds.
Yes, when you open accounts the same day that you sell hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise with no background record, you will get questioned.

Customer service sucks.
Luckily Sara DeRose of Fixer Creative Co. stepped up and worked late nights to make sure all order issues were ironed out. Systems like Google Forms and Zendesk made life a lot easier when donors changed their shipping address or shirt size or needed a return.

Weird things will happen.
Weird people will call you asking about shirts like they are the only people that ordered from you. Or accuse you of stealing their $20 bill at a fundraiser. Just ignore these people.

We have the best board of directors.
Boards are never fun, but somehow we have managed to have a good time making some big decisions. We had never worked together. We competed on projects previously and now we all work under the same roof, not as Wild Fire Tees, but as individual companies.

It’s been amazing. And we are grateful.
